The Making of Collection: The Devoted Collector
Wednesday, March 27, 2019, 6-8 pm

Second discussion of The Making of a Collection, Demisch Danant’s salon-style series focusing on the process of collecting; and the research and expertise, both professional and personal, behind the making of a meaningful collection.

Guest speakers will share their stories and their knowledge, representing different points of views.

In tandem with our current exhibition A Specific Eye: Seven Collections, the topic of this discussion is about the devoted collector, how does one start collecting and why and what? How do you find the object, and what motivates you to look? How has the field changed in the last 20 years? What were you collecting 20 years ago and now, has it changed?

Joining Suzanne Demisch, the guest speakers all have been picking/collecting for many years an array of objects and artworks; they will share stories about discoveries, missed opportunities and their passion. The discussion is salon-style and we encourage all to participate.

Moderated by Glenn Adamson, Senior Scholar at the Yale Center for British Art. His book Fewer Better Things: The Hidden Wisdom of Objects was published in 2018.
