Jos Devriendt | FLOWers
December 12, 2024 – February 1, 2025
Jos Devriendt's fifth exhibition at Demisch Danant will feature over 50 new works. In this latest collection, the artist presents a compelling collaboration of form and color to create his own aesthetic language. Like a painter, his color palette is guided primarily by intuition. Through chiaroscuro, works explore the nuances of natural and artificial light, appearing as sculpture in daylight and as luminous objects at nightfall.
FLOWers abstracts the beauty of the solitary flower as a metaphor for the fragility and impermanence of humanity. The themes entwine Devriendt’s keen observation of nature with his deep concern for human life. In the creation of these pieces, Devriendt has combined materials as varied as bronze, ceramics, brass and epoxy to explore new forms, new colors, and unique narratives regarding light.
A Belgian designer born in Ostend in 1964, Devriendt studied ceramics at the LUCA School of Arts and sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Fascinated by the aura and tactility of forms, Devriendt constantly reinvents himself through his art. His practice weds the earthiness of the ceramist with the ethereality of the poet to create a uniquely seductive interpretation of functionalism.
